Did You Know?
The Specialty Coffee Association and the European Coffee Brewing Center approve of the Technivorm Moccamaster.

Technivorm Moccamaster 59616 KBG Coffee Brewer, 40 oz, Polished Silver40-Ounce Water Tank With a Glass Transfer Tube

The cool water tank on this coffee brewer has a capacity of 40 ounces. This means that the KBT 741 can brew about 10 four-ounce cups of coffee at once.

The tank also has a glass transfer tube that manages to transfer hot water with a temperature from 194F to 205F to the outlet arm of the coffee brewer. However, for that to happen, the water from the water tank has to flow into the heating element of the KBT 741.

Heating Element Made of Copper

To make the water reach a temperature from 194F to 205F, the KBT 741 comes with a built-in copper heating element. The heating element makes sure that the temperature of the brewing water is always constant, which is what makes the Technivorm Moccamaster coffee brewers stand out from other brewers.

The Specialty Coffee Association states that temperatures from 194F to 205F are ideal for getting the best of the coffee. Once the water reaches this temperature, it goes into the glass transfer tube in the water tank, and from there it enters the nine-hole outlet arm of the KBT 741.

Nine-Hole Outlet Arm

The Technivorm Moccamaster KBT 741 has a nine-hole outlet arm. The water that’s reached brewing temperature enters the arm from one side and drips through the nine holes on its other side. The showerhead (the nine holes) wets all the coffee equally to extract the full flavor of the coffee.

Brew Container That Controls the Coffee Flow

The brew container of the KBT 741 requires a cone paper filter or some other filter like the GoldTone that can fit in it to be able to brew your coffee. Once you’ve placed the filter in the container and put the ground coffee in it, you should close the lid and wait for the brewer to start brewing.

The brew container has a sliding button that controls how the coffee flows from it and into the thermal carafe. There are three flow control options, and these let the coffee flow at a normal rate, at half the rate, or completely stop the flow of the coffee. These control options can help you get the coffee flavor that you want.

Double-Wall Thermo Carafe

Ultimately, the coffee will flow into the double-wall stainless steel thermal carafe of the KBT 741. There’s a special brew-thru lid that comes with the carafe which goes down to the bottom of the carafe. This way your coffee will reach the carafe’s bottom in a manner that will preserve its flavor and evenly mix it.

You can leave the brew-thru lid in your carafe and serve yourself coffee throughout the day. This way your coffee will stay hot for about an hour. However, if you want to take the coffee somewhere with you, you should close the carafe with the travel lid that comes with the KBT 741.

The Taste of the Coffee

Due to all of the technologies that the Technivorm Moccamaster KBT 741 relies on, the coffee that goes into the thermal carafe always tastes very good. This might be a very basic machine, but it produces coffee with full flavor and great aroma.

Downsides

The Technivorm Moccamaster KBT 741 doesn’t come with a coffee grinder. However, you can buy an affordable electric or manual grinder, for example, if you don’t have one already. If you want to

The water reservoir might be small for some people. If you also think that 40 ounces of water are not enough for your needs, this coffee brewer might not be for you. In this case, we suggest you check out other drip-brew coffee makers that can brew a carafe like the K-Duo Plus by Keurig or some of the best Ninja coffee makers. However, the KBT 741 brews the coffee in 6 to 8 minutes, so if you have another thermal carafe on your disposal, you could pour the first brew in it and brew yourself another 40 ounces of coffee that will go into the KBT 741 carafe.

FAQ About the Technivorm Moccamaster KBT 741

1. Is it normal that there’s water in my brewer after the brewing is over?

Yes, this is completely normal. All Technivorm Moccamaster coffee makers work in a way that lets water flow through the brew system with the help of the boiling process. However, the coffee makers don’t push the water out of the system. Therefore, it is normal that you’re seeing water in the brewer after the brewing is over.

However, if you don’t use your Moccamaster frequently or if you won’t be using it for a while, make sure to empty the water from the coffee maker.

2. Can the Technivorm Moccamaster KBT 741 work with a GoldTone filter?

Yes, it can.

3. How much ground coffee do I need to brew 40 ounces of coffee on the KBT 741?

You’ll need about 2.4 ounces of ground coffee to brew the maximum amount of coffee on this brewer, which is 40 ounces.

4. How should I grind my coffee to get the best of it on the Technivorm Moccamaster KBT 741?

You should use a medium grind with this brewer. If you grind your coffee too fine, you might get bitter coffee, and if you grind it very coarse it might not even have a flavor.

5. Does the Technivorm Moccamaster KBT 741 have a timer?

No, it doesn’t. Technivorm Moccamaster didn’t include a timer on the machine because they think that both the water and the coffee should be fresh for a better taste of the coffee. They don’t want you to leave water in the water tank of the brewer for longer because it can go stale. Furthermore, this brewer can brew your coffee in about 6 to 8 minutes which is a short time for brewing anyway.

What Are Some Alternatives to the Technivorm Moccamaster KBT 741?

Technivorm Moccamaster 39340 CDT Grand 60, oz Brushed, Silver The Technivorm Moccamaster CDT Grand Coffee Brewer

A nice alternative to the KBT 741 is the Technivorm Moccamaster CDT Grand coffee brewer. This brewer has a 60-ounce double-wall stainless steel thermal carafe, which means that it brews more coffee than the KBT 741. Other than that, the brewer has a copper boiling element, maintains a constant brewing temperature from 194F to 205F, and brews the coffee in 6 to 8 minutes.

    • Hello, Ernest!! Thank you too for asking this question!! :)) ☕

There are some parts on this Moccamaster that are made of plastic. These parts are the water tank, the brew basket, and the lid, handle, and inner tube of the thermal carafe that comes with the coffee maker. The measuring spoon for coffee grounds is also made of plastic. However, the plastic parts on this drip coffee maker are BPA-free and are very durable. Also, the water in the reservoir only stays inside of it for as long as the brewing process lasts and no longer than that; that’s just the way this coffee maker works.
On the other hand, the heating element and the showerhead of the KBT 741 are made of stainless steel.

Thank you for your attention!! We wish you some really enjoyable coffee sips today!! :)) ☕

    • Hello and thank you for your question!! :)) ☕

There are many different Technivorm Moccamaster models and we would say that each of them is suitable for people with different coffee needs. The models differ in their designs, water tank capacities, carafe type, brew time, auto-off features, and, of course, their price. However, every Moccamaster model is SCAA certified, and that means that it brews coffee under certain standards that guarantee the quality of the drink.
As far as what the Moccamaster best-sellers on Amazon currently are, it is the KBG, KBT, and the Moccmaster Cup One single-serve coffee makers that are the most demanded Technivorms. Here are the links to these three fine Moccamasters:

Which parts can I wash in the dishwasher if any? Plus, do I need to descale the coffeemaker?

    • Hello, Theresa!! It is very important to clean and maintain your Technivorm Moccamaster, so here comes an answer to your question!! :)) ☕

There are dishwasher-safe parts on the KBT 741 and those are the brew basket and the lid of the thermal carafe. The carafe itself is not dishwasher-safe, however. To clean the carafe, you’ll need to use a cleaning table.
To answer your other question — yes, you will need to descale the Moccamaster. The manufacturers of the coffee maker recommend the Durgol descaler once it’s time for descaling (after approximately 100 brew cycles or when needed).

  3. Where can I get a replacement rectangular water tank reservoir (other than a site in Finland)? I don’t see anything but reservoir lids listed in replacement parts sites.
